Firstly, you should say that SDLMAME (our emulator), as the name implies, uses the SDL, then installiamole:

apt-get install libsdl-image1.2 libsdl-mixer1.2 libsdl-net1.2 libsdl1.2debian libsdl1.2debian-alsa

Plus any other dependencies. Then it goes to download the package from here (they are compiled packages for Ubuntu, but is not a problem) and installiamolo:

dpkg -i sdlmame_0.130u4-ww~intrepid1_i386.deb

Done .. Now keep in mind that the directory /etc/sdlmame/ find the emulator and its configuration file mame.ini while in the folder /usr/local/share/games/sdlmame/roms/ or /NOMEUTENTE/.mame/roms/ rom the place you go to your favorite games, which are easily available online (eg here) ..

The emulator is started with the simple command sdlmame but if you have graphics acceleration enabled I recommend:

sdlmame -video opengl
